My Petland is written for pet owners first. Pages should answer a real question clearly, show their limits, and make the next safe action obvious.
Source selection
We favor sources in this order:
- current guidelines and consensus material from recognized veterinary associations;
- government animal-health agencies;
- veterinary schools and university veterinary hospitals;
- peer-reviewed research; and
- clearly attributed educational material from qualified veterinary professionals.
We prefer original, current, and directly relevant sources. We do not use one small study to support a broad conclusion that its design or population cannot justify.
When reliable sources differ, the page should describe the uncertainty rather than hide it. A link does not mean that its publisher endorses My Petland.
Writing and safety checks
The editorial team starts with a specific reader question, reviews the relevant sources, drafts an original explanation, and checks material factual and safety claims against those sources.
Before publication, health-related pages are checked for:
- unsupported medical claims;
- diagnosis or treatment language;
- medication, supplement, calorie, or other dosing instructions;
- advice that could delay veterinary care;
- overconfident vaccination, parasite-control, examination, or testing schedules;
- missing emergency escalation;
- inaccurate source attribution; and
- language that implies credentials or professional review the site does not have.
A disclaimer does not make unsafe advice acceptable. Content outside these boundaries must not be published.
How calculations are labeled
Human-age results use words such as “about” and “approximate.” They are cross-species analogies, not measurements of biological or clinical age. The Methodology publishes the age anchors, interpolation rule, life-stage boundaries, and known limits used by the calculator.
Medical-content boundaries
Content may explain low-risk observation, routine care topics, and signs that deserve veterinary attention. It does not diagnose a condition, prescribe treatment, provide medication or supplement dosages, or instruct a reader to manage urgent signs at home. Individual decisions belong with a veterinarian who has examined the animal.
The sourced visible-health image guide is a narrow exception that may name a condition as one of several possibilities. Each example separates observable features from conditions a veterinarian may assess, shows medical sources independently from image licensing, and repeats that similar-looking changes can have different causes. This exception does not extend to the age number, general change list, nutrition panel, or emergency section.
Image sourcing
Clinical and educational images are used only when reuse rights, authorship, source page, license, and any display changes are stated beside the image. Image permission does not make an image a medical authority; medical claims require a separate veterinary guideline, manual, or peer-reviewed source.
Dates and updates
“Published” is the date a page first became publicly available.
“Last editorial source check” is the date the page’s material factual claims, source links, medical boundaries, and safety language were rechecked. A spelling, layout, image, or formatting change alone does not reset this date.
We recheck a page when cited guidance changes, a source becomes unavailable, a credible correction is reported, or the page’s scope materially changes.
When an error is confirmed, we correct the copy and update the last-checked date. If the correction materially changes the meaning or safety of a page, we add a brief correction note explaining what changed. Readers can report an unclear claim, broken source, or factual error through the Contact page.
Veterinary review claims
The My Petland Editorial Team is not a veterinary review board. “Veterinarian reviewed” appears only after a real, named veterinarian approves the exact version displayed. The current pages make no such claim. Institutional sources are not a substitute for individual review.
Commercial independence
The launch site has no advertising, affiliate links, paid placements, or product recommendations. If commercial relationships are introduced later, they must be disclosed without changing editorial conclusions.
